Biographical Profile

Ambassador Silvia Alfaro, Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Peru, is a career diplomat with more than forty years of service in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru.

She has served as Ambassador of Peru to Chile (2023–2025), Permanent Delegate of Peru to UNESCO in Paris (2021–2023), Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Peru to the International Organizations in Geneva (2019–2021), and Ambassador of Peru to the Plurinational State of Bolivia (2011–2014). She has also served as Consul General of Peru in Barcelona and as Head of Chancery of the Embassy of Peru in France, among other diplomatic assignments.

Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, she has held senior positions including Director-General for Economic Promotion, Director-General for Europe, Director-General for the South American Community and the Andean Community, and Director of Free Trade Agreement Negotiations.

She holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (United Kingdom, 1985). She also holds a Law degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (2017) and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the Diplomatic Academy of Peru (1982).

Ambassador Alfaro has been decorated with the Order of Merit of Chile in the rank of Grand Cross, the Order for Distinguished Services of Peru in the rank of Grand Cross, the National Order of the Andean Condor of Bolivia in the rank of Grand Cross, and the Order of Simón Bolívar of Bolivia in the rank of Knight.

She speaks Spanish, English, French, and Portuguese.
